Can you actually play deep strategy in ten-minute chunks?
Mobile strategy has a scheduling problem. The best games want your full attention, but phones are what you pull out when you have five spare minutes. So we spent a couple of weeks trying to play deep strategy titles only in short bursts, to see what survived.
The winners were games with clean save-and-resume and a clear board state you can re-read in seconds. If I need three minutes just to remember my own plan, the design has failed the commute test.
Turn-based games handled the fragmentation best, unsurprisingly. Real-time strategy suffered, since pausing a live battle mid-panic and returning an hour later rarely goes well. Ironhold Legions was a pleasant exception thanks to its wave-by-wave structure.
My takeaway: pick games that break naturally into small decisions. You don't need to finish a whole campaign in one sitting, you just need each session to end on a clean line.
